MCEDC Commissioner Meeting- October 10th

Madera County Economic Development Commission (MCEDC) will hold their quarterly Commissioners Meeting on October 10, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at the Civic Center in Chowchilla. The public is welcome to attend MCEDC's Commissioner Meetings.  This is a great opportunity to meet Economic Development staff and learn more about the mission and services that MCEDC provides.
Note: MCEDC requests that presentations are no longer than 3-5 minutes.

Madera County Unemployment Rate

The unemployment rate in Madera County was 6.5 percent in August 2007, down from 7.3 percent in July 2007, but above the year-ago estimate of 6.0 percent.  This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 5.4 percent for California and 4.6 percent for the nation during the same period.  For the full report on Madera County. San Joaquin Wine Co., Madera's Newest Winery

San Joaquin Wine Company is a new winery in north Madera County that adjoins Deniz Packing. Steve Shafer of Madera is the wine company’s proprietor. The winery is currently assembling its equipment and has received its federal license to operate.

Biomass Facility gets New Life

Biomass FacilityThe old Chow II Biomass facility in the Chowchilla Industrial Park is now called the Chow III Biomass Facility and is owned by a joint venture led by Ampersand Energy Partners out of Boston, Massachusetts. Ampersand Energy Partners is spending approximately $15 million on the project. The electricity facility will produce 12.5 megawatts of electricity. Madera County’s Agricultural Production Tops $1 Billion

For the third consecutive year, Madera County’s agricultural production exceeds $1 billion. However, the 2006 total lagged behind the previous year: the difference is about $73 million.  Crop losses were linked to a heat wave, rainfall and other weather events.

Plans Approved for Massive New Community in Madera Co.

The 2000 acre Gateway Village project will be located on the southwest corner of Highway 41 and Avenue 12.  The project has been in the works for more than a decade.  Recently the Madera County Board of Supervisors approved all the items needed to move forward with the new community. Click here
