Madera County Unemployment Rate

The unemployment rate in Madera County was 6.1 percent in September 2007, down from 6.5 percent in August 2007, but above the year-ago estimate of 5.3 percent. This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 5.4 percent for California and 4.5 percent for the nation during the same period. For the full report on Madera County. Click here

Madera Co. waits for OK to proceed with the casino from President Bush. The North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians and other tribes nationwide have been waiting months if not years for the Bureau of Indian Affairs to make crucial decisions. The bureaucratic delays are costing money and undermining morale, senators and tribal leaders agreed during a hearing designed to pressure the administration. Read More

Jim Kopshever is Appointed Chowchilla’s New Councilmember

Filling the shoes of late council member Alfred Ginsburg, Jim Kopshever is confident he is the right person for the job. In a 3 to 1 vote the Chowchilla City Council appointed Kopshever to fill the seat left vacant by Ginsburg. Kopshever will officially be sworn in at the October 29, council meeting.
