Tesoro Viejo Inc. will be the Corporate Sponsor for MCEDC’s State of the County Luncheon
The Corporate Sponsor for the Madera County EDC’s State of the County luncheon will be Tesoro Viejo, Inc., developer of a master planned community that will be located in the heart of the Rio Mesa growth area, east of Highway 41 and south of Avenue 15.
This new community, which is being developed by an entity formed by McCaffrey Homes, Gary McDonald and Lyles United, LLC, will include new homes, schools, offices, stores and other businesses that will create 7,000 new jobs.
Additionally, a full 25 percent of the project area will be dedicated to neighborhood parks, recreational areas, public trails and open space. |

Twins beat hard knocks, bottle pomegranate wine
Fresno Bee
After major health set backs, the Davis brothers from Madera, both Cal Poly graduates, partnered with a San Luis Obispo winery to make pomegranate wine that’s sourced from the family’s pomegranate orchards. The Davises also helped fine tune the flavor. They wanted a lighter, more refreshing drink than the sweeter-tasting pomegranate wines already on the market. Their goal is to tap the popularity of wine and pomegranates. Farmed for hundreds of years, pomegranates are known as antioxidant powerhouses, and in California most come from the San Joaquin Valley. Valley counties vie for rail maintenance station
The Fresno Bee
13 sites are being pitched to the California High-Speed Rail Authority. Only one can be home to a “heavy maintenance facility” where the futuristic bullet trains would be outfitted, tested, and repaired and stored. In Madera County, where several prospective routes remain in consideration for the high-speed trains, officials are pitching five sites, mostly clustered near Chowchilla. “The facility itself will bring a lot of jobs, but that’s not the whole story,” said Tom Skinner of Valley Planning Consultants, working for the City of Chowchilla. “It’s the engine that’s going to run all those small businesses that will gravitate around it.” Read more

National Parks are booming in California and nation
Central Valley Business Times
- Yosemite National Park hosted 3,737,472 visitors in 2009, an increase of 305,958 over 2008.
Ten million more Americans and foreign tourists visited the nation’s national parks last year than in 2008, a 3.9 percent increase, despite or perhaps because of the Great Recession. In all, more than 285 million people visited national parks and other units of the National Park System during 2009, up from just under 275 million in 2008. Read more

TPI (Thomas Products LLC) of Madera has recently earned American Feed Industry Association’s, Safe Feed Safe Food Certification
TPI Press Release
TPI, a company servicing the micro-ingredient and premix need for the western United States located in Madera, CA has recently earned the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) Safe Feed Safe Food Certification and joined AFIA’s mission of “insuring continuous improvement in the delivery of a safe and wholesome feed supply”. TPI’s quality assurance manager, Eduardo Flores stated, “I am proud to say that we have met all of their (AFIA’s) requirements and are now a Safe Feed/Safe Food certified facility.” Read more
