MCEDC Commissionner Meeting -
January 9, 2008
Madera County Economic Development Commission (MCEDC) will hold their quarterly Commissioners Meeting on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at the Madera County EDC office located at 2425 W. Cleveland Ave. The public is welcome to attend MCEDC's Commissioner Meetings. This is a great opportunity to meet Economic Development staff and learn more about the mission and services that MCEDC provides.
Note: MCEDC requests that presentations are no longer than 3-5 minutes.

Business Finance Workshop - January 16, 2008
The Lyles Center and Madera County EDC will be hosting a Business Financial Workshop at the Madera Community College Center located at 30277 Ave. 12, from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The focus of the workshop is to inform business owners in Madera County about financial resources and programs that are available and the preparation required to take advantage of these financial resources. Madera County Unemployment Rate
The unemployment rate in Madera County was 6.8 percent in October 2007, up from 6.1 percent in September 2007, and also above the year-ago estimate of 5.6 percent. This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 5.4 percent for California and 4.4 percent for the nation during the same period. For the full report on Madera County, Click Here

Construction to Start on New “Commons” Development at Madera Fairgrounds

Madera District Fair has signed a historic lease agreement with Newman Development to create The Commons at Madera Fair, which will include the widening of Cleveland Avenue and the addition of businesses such as Lowe’s and Chili’s Restaurant. Site preparation is underway.

The CA Labor and Workforce Development Agency’s Employment Training Panel (ETP) recently approved 38 contracts totaling almost $12 million in job training funds. ETP is a business and labor supported state agency that assists employers in strengthening their competitive edge by providing funds to partially off-set the costs of job skills training that is necessary to maintain high performance workplaces.
